My hair stylist has been evangelizing the goodness and light that is Argan oil for months now, but I was more than a little deaf to her sermons. Oil? In my finely textured hair? Why ever would I want to do such a thing? So finally she stopped asking what I wanted in my hair when it came time for styling and one day added a nickel-sized puddle of Agadir Argan Oil Hair Treatment to the squirt of straightening, blow-out product she usually uses on me and proceeded as if my opinions on the subject were uninformed. As they were.
Like a sheet of glass, people! A goldeny-highlighted sheet of glass, my hair felt like. It was soft and smooth without feeling doused in slippery silicone product. It’s weightless and absorbs instantly. The Argan oil warded off the South Carolina humidity, too. My hair inflates, Bozo-like, as soon as I step outside. The Agadir oil is not a straightening product, per se, but it did keep the puffy frizzies away.
My hair is fine, but I have a shit ton of it. It takes forever to dry, but the Agadir oil cuts down on blow-drying time. It’s part moisturizing hair repair, part styling product, and it makes my color last longer. It has a warm, exotic honey-like smell. And let’s face it – no matter what a product does, if it doesn’t smell good, we’re not buying it. Am I right, ladies?
I’ve been letting my hair grow, and the Agadir oil is making my hair stronger, too. In the past when I had the yen to let it grow a bit, I’d quickly grow frustrated with the breaking and fuzzy, split ends and chop it off again. But this product makes me want to keep it growing because my hair looks and feels luxurious. And healthy! I put some on Tink’s hair the other night after her bath and I swear I could see my reflection on her shiny black head.
It does wonders for my straightish hair, but I’ve heard it’s an absolute miracle on coarse, curly hair. It was previously called Moroccan Gold Miracle Oil until a trademark dispute with another product, called Moroccan Oil, forced the Agadir people to change the name. Both brands use oil extracted from the nut of the Argan tree, which is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, and Argan oil is listed as the fourth ingredient in both products. Based on product reviews and other blogs, it would seem the two are virtually indistinguishable. Author and beauty blogger Felicia Sullivan, a curly-haired crusader against chemical straighteners, recently proclaimed her love for Moroccan Oil.
It’s not cheap – about $40 for a 4-ounce bottle. My salon carries 2-ounce bottles for $20, and that should last me six months. This from Amazon, a 4-ounce bottle and three travel tubes for $27, would be a fantastic deal but that one customer review makes me leery.
I’ve been seeing Argan oil showing up in skin products, too. I haven’t tried any yet, but I’m very curious.

Ooh, sounds great! It doesn’t weigh your hair down at all? I have fine hair, and not a lot of it, so that would be my only concern.

@abdpbt – No, it’s truly weightless! Your hair absorbs it and there’s no residue or greasiness. I love, love this stuff. $20 is kind of a lot to spend if you’re worried you won’t like it, so see if a salon near you has the travel tubes, sort of a sample size.

I have to say that I ADORE Moroccanoil. My friend, who has fine blond hair, recommended it to me and I was shocked that one product could do wonders for two markedly different hair types & textures. I also found an amazing serum from Sachajuan. You might want to check it out. xoxox

Felicia – Have you tried any of the Argan oil skin products yet? I’m eager to check one out. I’m going to look for the Sachajuan serum.

I’ve only tried Josie Maran’s argan oil, however, against pale skin the bronzing oil, while lovely, didn’t feel right on me. However, I have close friends, who I trust, who swear by it. Perhaps patch test it?

Thanks for this. I’m the same as you, fine hair and a ton of it. I go to get it thinned even between trims when it’s long. And honestly $20 isn’t bad for lasting 6 months. I’ll have to see where to find it in the UK.

Heather – No, it’s not that much money considering how long it lasts, but it’s a lot of money if you end up not liking the product. Which I don’t think will happen; this product is so fabulous. If you can’t find this particular product in the UK, I’m sure you’ll be able to find something else with Argan oil in it.

I’d never get my hair extensions from anywhere but London. Thanks for dropping by.

Hello Girls,
I work as a Sales Consultant for Agadir. I live and swear by this miracle oil. It is extremely lightweight. It is great for all hair types. It does not weigh down the hair. It is a a treatment loaded with Vitamin E and intense moisuture. It smells so sensual and exotic that you’d wish you could wear it as perfume. The scent is very subtle though. It will be the best $20 ever spent. Get your hands on a bottle and try it! You will never want to go a day with out it in your hair.

I have very thick, coarse hair. Takes FOREVER to dry… I recently purchased a bottle from my hair stylist. I LOVE this stuff. Everything Eliz said is absolutely true. Smell is wonderful – does not leave hair oily – leaves hair feeling silky smooth.

Eliz your writing is hilarious! I totally relate with “My hair inflates, Bozo-like, as soon as I step outside.” Still have half a bottle of Kaeline but I’ll try Agadir next.

I recently purchased this Agadir Oil. AND I LOVE it! I can’t wait to see what the long term is on it, as I am growing my hair out! I color my hair and it seems as tho everytime I color it I need a trim… which in turn makes it seem as though it grows TOO slow! I put this on the last three days and it looks like I just got a cut and color!
