@Charlotte: Yeah, it's really a non-choice. It's a sad paradox for kids and families that in the states with the highest taxes, the school choices are the most limited.

Your comment about how the public and Catholic schools where you came from weren't that much different because the socio-economic status of the town made for a generic "sameness" was a great thought that had not occurred to me. It's exactly the same problem in my town - a blue collar town that is falling apart from unemployment.

By the way, I read a few of those bulletin boards. You're right. Lots to laugh at and roll your eyes at.

This is fantastic news. YAY cute as can be, smart daughter. And yay you, I'm sure you're the big reason she did so well.

My mom reminded us that we were bright but there's also someone smarter. So do your best for your own sense of achievement. Oh, but if you don't do as well as I know you can, I'll take away all your Babysitter's Club books. But that's several years for Tink.

Make sure she's having fun, right?

Oh, and I think it's crazy that's what kids have to know these days...before school.

And that's why Southerners think Yankees are pretentious aholes and assume New Yorkers think there's no better place than Manhattan. It's enjoyable to read your experiences of the South and the North.
